EFIC-GRÜNENTHAL GRANT 2016

  • Creating further awareness for pain and its treatment
  • Support young scientists to bring out best pain relief for patients

Aachen/Brussels, 23 June 2016. For the tenth time, young European scientists who have an innovative pain research idea, are called upon to apply for one of the most prestigious and highly regarded pain research grants worldwide: The EFIC-GRÜNENTHAL Grant (E-G-G).

The long lasting collaboration between the European Pain Federation EFIC® and the German pain expert Grünenthal has one common goal: Create awareness for pain management and support those who are able to bring out individual treatments for pain patients. “Our intensive and fruitful cooperation unconditionally pursues the target to bring the best pain relief to every individual patient”, highlights Dr Luis Villanueva, Chair of the EFIC® Committee on Scientific Research. He continues:“As pain still poses a huge economic and social burden, we know about the importance to consider and improve our joint working to find successful ways to apply best pain treatment in the future”.

The biennial grant sponsored by Grünenthal totalling €200,000 enables young scientists to translate their innovative pain research idea into practise, at a crucial time in their career when it is often extremly difficult for them to receive research funds. Individual grants are valued at up to € 40,000 per project for a duration of up to two years. The decision on award winners is made independently by the EFIC® Committee on Scientific Research.

“Now announced for the 10th time since the first call in 2004, the continuous rising number of EFIC-GRÜNENTHAL Grant applications shows that the E-G-G is a major way to promote pain research”, emphasizes Dr Frank Laschewski, Head of Medical Affairs Europe and North America of the Grünenthal Group. “Since diagnosis and management of pain can be very complex, many patients still do not receive adequate treatment. Therefore, it is Grünenthal’s longterm commitment to drive research in this field.” Today well established, the grant receives growing awareness in the community of distinguished pain experts, and moreover, winners become part of an international network in the field. Learn more about this research grant on the EFIC-GRÜNENTHAL Grant YouTube Channel.

Interested young pain researchers who meet the criteria for application, can apply online by end of this year at www.e-g-g.info.
