IASP Revises its Definition for the First Time Since 1979

July 15, 2020 – WASHINGTON, DC – The International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) has revised the definition of pain for the first time since 1979, the result of a years-long process that the association hopes will lead to new ways of assessing pain. The revised definition was published today in the association’s official journal, PAIN, along with the associated commentary by President Lars Arendt-Nielsen and Immediate Past President, Judith Turner.

On behalf of the Organizing committee, we would like to inform you that the abstract submission deadline for the Roma Pain Days Congress 2022 has been postponed to July 20.

We kindly ask you to inform your members about this matter and/or promote this news on your webpage.

Dear Colleagues,

I hope this email finds you well.

The IFA is pleased to share the launch of the white paper, Advocating for Accessible Pain Relief for Older Adults in the European Union (EU).

This paper reflects the valuable insights gathered through survey insights from 1,811 older adults across six countries, as well as contributions from subject matter experts - including advisory committee members, such as yourselves. We sincerely thank you again for your time, expertise, and thoughtful input throughout this process.

We hope you will find this resource useful in raising awareness, informing policy and practice discussions, and supporting broader dissemination within your respective networks. As outlined in the conclusion, this work is intended not as an endpoint, but as a foundation for continued dialogue and collaboration across sectors to advance more accessible, person-centred pain management for older adults.

The IFA would greatly appreciate your support in sharing the white paper within your networks. Broader dissemination will help encourage collaboration and strengthen its impact.

The full White Paper is attached and can also be accessed here: White Paper

Thank you once again for your commitment and contributions to this initiative. We look forward to opportunities to continue this work together and to build on the momentum generated through this process.

Please do not hesitate to reach out should you have any questions or wish to discuss next steps.

nagement. It calls for more equitable, person-centred approaches that protect the health, rights, and dignity of older people.

Jak co roku International Association for the Study of Pain zainicjowało akcję na rzecz ulgi w bólu, tym razem na rzecz ulgi w bólach głowy. Akcja będzie trwała do października 2012 r i obejmuje m.in. edycję na stronie IASP broszur dotyczących wielu aspektów bólów głowy - wkrótce broszury będą także dostępne w j. polskim. Serdecznie zapraszamy!
