AND EUROPEAN PAIN EXAMS
28-29 May 2024
Why is this summit necessary?
First of all, some of the best European pain specialists have been invited to the summit. The lectures given will be aligned with the EFIC pain curriculum material. Lectures will be short and specific; they will provide references for further deepening of knowledge. The material will rely on the principles of evidence-based medicine and review the latest scientific literature. This will help anyone interested in pain medicine to update the latest news. Plenary session lectures will touch on such topics as the application of digital technologies in pain medicine, the 11th International Classification of Diseases and Injuries (ICD-11) chronic pain classification, nociplastic pain issues, the role of genes in chronic pain, etc. The two sessions will be jointly organized by the European Headache Federation (EFH) and the European Association for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ESPRM).
One of the most important goals of the virtual summit is to provide material for European pain exams:
1) for doctors - EDPM (European diploma in pain medicine);
2) for physiotherapists - EDPP (European diploma in pain physiotherapy);
3) for nurses - EDPN (European diploma in pain nursing).
Curriculums have been created for all exams, and EDPM and EDPP programs in 2023. were updated..
Why attend the summit?
This year, the EFIC summit will be held on May 28-29. Lectures for doctors, nurses, psychologists and physiotherapists will be held in parallel. Some sessions will be multidisciplinary, involving representatives from multiple disciplines. There will be four plenary lectures in total. After each lecture or session, there will be a "live" discussion between the lecturers, during which the lecturers will participate in the so-called Q&A session (Questions and Answers). The audience will be able to submit questions virtually. EFIC has received CME accreditation for this year's Virtual Summit. This means that joining the summit and answering a few questions after each session or plenary lecture the participant will earn CME points. A maximum of 14 CME points can be earned if attended in full. Access to the material will be available for several months after the summit. You can find the preliminary program in the link below.
Why is it important to pass the European pain specialist exam?
EFIC's educational aim is to standardize the knowledge and examinations of pain specialists across Europe. This is a rather distant goal, but small but consistent steps are being taken in that direction. After unifying knowledge, it would be possible to work in other European countries with a pain specialist diploma or at least complete pain residencies in countries where such residencies exist. Individual arrangements would be made with each country depending on national pain curriculum. This would increase the recognition of pain specialists throughout Europe and help reach common agreements on many issues affecting pain treatment and rehabilitation.
